I tend to seek stories with a girls point of view, but this one, for a change, is about boyhood and growing into a man. He explains the lure of violence, which is something that I’d never had much insight about, and he does it with no macho posturing. The thing is, that posturing, the way he could really fight and take someone out, is still so valued in our culture. He could use that still to be loved and admired but he does not.
