The question of whether fashion should be protected by copyright is an interesting one, but Louboutin suing YSL over red soles is a bit much. Louboutin did not invent the red sole, I’ve heard it was a French aristocrat thing. And remember Dries’ red heels one season? Someone said red heels originally signified that that the woman was a witch.
